Somehow, competitive eaters are able to stuff meal after meal into their stomachs as fast as they can, while maintaining their poise the entire time. Pretty impressive, right? Plus, they still manage to stay in shape.
Mary Bowers, a competitive eater, explains how people in her profession each have a different eating and breathing technique to choke down food in a manageable way. While we’re amazed at how complicated competitive eating is, we’re interested in learning a little bit more about how these competitive eaters manage to stay in such great shape even after packing down so much food.
Matt Stonie, a competitive eater from San Jose, has the answer to our curiosity. “When I’m seriously training, I go to the gym about five times a week and have to skip meals with friends and family to stick to my schedule and keep my weight down,” he said.
Competitive Eater Michelle Lesco has a similar routine, where she fills up on tons of liquids before a competition to stretch her stomach out. She’s able to wean herself on and off of her diet, depending on when she has a competition, and exercises to help burn off the extra calories. In each case, staying in shape for a competitive eater is all about regimented dieting and exercise.
