Shopping for foundation is hard enough. Women of colour have the added challenge of finding the right shade and undertone to match their skin, while living in a Western beauty world that typically caters to Caucasian women.

On top of that, shopping conditions at the drugstore aren’t exactly conducive to finding the perfect colour match. Sometimes there aren’t any testers available to swatch, leaving customers guessing whether or not the colour in the bottle will be the same on the skin.

But Freddie, Jazzmyne, Caity and Brianna are willing to throw out their preconceived notions about drugstore makeup shopping in an attempt to find their perfect foundation.

Not surprisingly, the women head back to the studio feeling unimpressed with the limited amount of product choice for their skin tones. They still manage to pick out a few selections to try out, however.

The results? Not too bad, but not great either. Like Freddie says, “finding your perfect foundation shade truly is a journey.”
