The truth is still out there.
That’s the word from U.S. broadcaster Fox, which has just announced The X Files will return for six brand new episodes. The best part? Those episodes will be helmed by creator and executive producer Chris Carter, AND they will star David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
That’s right, Mulder and Scully are back.
It’s been thirteen years since the original run, and 22 years since the show first debuted. Not to mention the 2008 big screen film. Essentially, fans have been hanging on in hopes that an announcement like this would eventually come.
If you’re looking for more details though you’ll have to hold on for a little while longer. Fox announced the show will pick up production this summer, but it didn’t reveal when we could expect to see a final product, what kind of story lines to expect, or what’s even changed in this fictional version of the FBI since we last left it.
But still, more X Files is on the way. We’d be lying if we said we haven’t hoped for this day since Fox revived Jack Bauer and 24.
It’s not like we haven’t seen the actors in a while. David Duchovny had a very successful run as Hank Moody on Californication, and Gillian Anderson was everything in Bravo’s The Fall. But this is how we want to see them — back as two of the greatest FBI agents to ever grace our TV screens.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said in the release. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
