Yes, Clare got engaged on 'The Bachelorette' and Twitter was sooo shocked

All the season previews, teasers, and trailers for the 16^th season of The Bachelorette hyped it up, with clips of Clare crying, storming out, men going on strike, and host Chris Harrison claiming they’ve never dealt with anything like this in Bachelorette history. Now those famous words to Clare, “Congratulations you’ve blown up The Bachelorette” finally have context from last night’s episode. And it’s kiiiiiiiiinda something we all knew was coming.Despite the rumours and whispers surrounding Clare’s season online, it was pretty obvious what was coming even if you solely watched the show. On night one, Clare was immediately infatuated with Dale Moss. And every week since that first meeting, she has been totally Dale-obsessed. She pulls him away for secret hang outs (read: make outs) and all she does is talk about him to the other men. So last night, when she revealed *gasp* that she’s in love with him and doesn’t want to date any of the other men, Bachelor Nation was like, “well duh.” Drawing out the 2-hour episode, we see Clare cancelling the cocktail party and rose ceremony to have a dinner date with Dale (where she revealed her parents got engaged after three weeks. It runs in the family!), and then them spending time together in the Fantasy Suite (except there was no Fantasy Suite, if you know what we mean…). Then suddenly Chris Harrison is ordering an engagement ring for the duo, because—ta da—they’re engaged! Dang, Clare chooses her husband quicker than Nevada and Georgia count their votes. Swish.

Normally, the show goes to great lengths to hide all the behind-the-scenes wrangling that goes on before each shot. Not this time. Chris Harrison cussed and had to be bleeped TWICE, producers were flat out hugging and consoling Clare as she cried, and camera-operators were basically part of almost every important shot. Blown up The Bachelorette indeed.Because the still-pending results from the American election are very much on everyone’s mind, Bachelor Nation got fed up with this rigmarole and meme’d the Twitter viewing party out of the water.

Probably the best part of this episode was seeing the remaining men finally smile and laugh after the tension with Clare was resolved. All episode, while Clare, Dale, Chris, and the producers ran around like chickens with their heads cut off, the remaining men, like Blake (from Hamilton, ON), Jason, Eazy, Chasen, and others just sat about the Bachelorette house talking about how hurt and angry they were (rightfully so!). They speculated about Clare’s motivations (Blake was wrong almost every time), and were certain she would return to them. But when Chris Harrison spoke with the poor lads and told them if they choose to stick around, they will have another shot with a new Bachelorette (Tayshia, get ready, this is your moment!), they all lit up like a candle.Enter stage left: Tayshia emerging from the black limo like Venus from the water.
