Selena Gomez has been focused on her Revival World Tour over the last few months, so it’s only natural that she would want to take a much-deserved break. But it’s not just because she’s exhausted from her tour; rather, it’s for her health. And with a candour we’ve come to love and expect, the singer is sharing exactly what she’s dealing with, in hopes that she can help others.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” the singer said in a statement to People. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”
She continued: “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
Selena first revealed that she suffered from lupus during an interview with Billboard last October. She was pissed, rightfully so, when the substance abuse rumours were floating around.
Gomez is in between legs of her tour. She just finished up in Australia but has a break until October when she picks back up in Oslo, according to her website. She has other stops scheduled in Europe and also has Asia, Latin America and North America to tackle but no word on whether the singer will play all of those remaining dates. Here’s hoping whenever she comes back, she’s healthier and happier.
