These days, simple skincare can be a hard sell. A product selling simplicity better perform. While we love the 10-step Korean skincare routines offering essences, toners, cleansers and all kinds of special concoctions to apply on your face, there’s also something to be said for a product that can multitask. Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple Cleanser is the skincare performer that delivers.

Not only does it cleanse, tone and hydrate, it’s an Allure 10 year(!) Reader’s Choice award winner. One simple Google search and you can see for yourself how the cult cleanser has a garnered an impressive 4.6/5 rating out of a whopping 35,943 reviews. On Amazon, 77 per cent of its 1,838 reviewers gave it five stars. And for a cleanser that removes makeup, refines pores, hydrates, evens skin tone and claims to be suitable for all skin-types — that’s not an easy feat.

But what intrigues us even more are the off-label usages for the cleanser that we’ve come across, ranging from simple tasks like cleaning your makeup brushes (Kim Kardashian‘s longtime makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic is a huge fan) to washing your dog with the stuff. Yes, it’s gentle enough for Rover’s beautiful, soft fur.

The cleanser can be used as a scalp treatment for when your hair has too much product buildup as well. Simply lather, leave it on the scalp for a bit, and rinse for a clean, refreshed hair. That’s not all though, we’ve also talked to people who swear by the stuff as a laundry detergent for delicates and — wait for it — a shoe cleaner. Dare we say it may also work on leather bags? There’s a reason this stuff comes in four sizes.
