When paramedic Chris Trokey and his unit rushed to help someone injured in a horrific car crash in 2011, he had no idea who he was going to run into. The man Trokey ended up rescuing turned out to be the same person who saved his young life three decades ago.

It’s all a little bit confusing, so let’s break it down:

30 years ago, Chris was born. At just 3.2 pounds, doctors only gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving, he told to KTLA 5. Here’s where a man named Dr. Shannon comes in. He was Chris’ pediatrician and he stayed with baby Chris around the clock until his health and stability improved — essentially saving his life.

Now fast-forward to 2011: Dr. Shannon is the same guy Chris rescued from the crash.

It’s funny how things work out, right?

“It’s amazing to watch them all grow up, but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it, that’s really incredible,” Shannon said, speaking to KTLA 5. Aw!

So what are the two of  them up to now? The men reunited earlier this month for a fundraiser to help benefit a local L.A. charity. This won’t be the only time they’ll be seeing each other since Dr. Shannon is also Chris’ son’s pediatrician.
