Warning: slight spoilers ahead.

If you were one of about three people who saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens and thought “Hmm…that was good, but it totally would have been better with a Hayden Christensen cameo,” you should know that your bizarre dream was almost a reality.

According to Star Wars concept artist Iain McCaig, The Force Awakens was this close to featuring a ghostly visit by Christensen’s badly acted prequel character, Anakin Skywalker. Thankfully, it didn’t happen.

Too bad, so sad, Darth.

In an excerpt from the book The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Harry N. Abrams, 2015), McCaig explains that Christensen almost appeared in the new film as a spooky, Darth Vader-y spirit. “‘When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow.’ That inspired me to propose, for the first time, that Anakin’s ghost could come back.” The book also posits what ghostly Anakin would have looked like.

Although Christensen didn’t show up in The Force Awakens, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t make an appearance episodes VIII or IX. But we really hope not.

Whatever you say, Hayden. Please stay away from all future Star Wars.
