Suits season eight is starting production soon and and with the exit of two of the legal drama’s biggest stars, USA has turned to Grey’s Anatomy alum Katherine Heigl to join the cast. Heigl will play Samantha Wheeler, a new partner at Pearson Specter Litt, and if you’ve ever watched more than a few episodes of Suits, you know how well those guys take to new partners. Spoiler: not very well. We’re definitely expecting high drama.
Suitors, let’s give a warm welcome to @KatieHeigl, the newest member of Pearson Specter Litt. Read more about the exciting announcement here. https://t.co/1wTRuU3l8y

Series creator Aaron Korsh teased Heigl’s new character in the season eight announcement saying, “Keep an eye out for an adversarial new character that will give Harvey a run for his money.” Heigl will be joining series regulars Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter), Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen) and Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt).
Suits fans were pretty excited when their own Meghan Markle (Rachel Zane) landed the most eligible prince in the land, but were less so when it meant she would be making her exit from the legal drama. Meghan has already bucked royal tradition in a number of ways, but it would appear that working in Toronto on a (often scandalous) TV show while your hubby lives in the U.K. is a step too far. Series star and Markle’s onscreen fiance Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross) will be bowing out after season seven as well to pursue new projects. That’s another unfortunate loss, but who really wants to see Mike without Rachel anyway?
Both Markle and Adams will appear for the last time in the two-hour season seven finale airing April 25. We can only hope that the couple gets an ending as fairy-tale perfect as the one Meghan is leaving the show for.
If her enthusiastic Instagram post is any indication, Katherine Heigl is over the moon at joining the series. The self-described “creepy fan girl” wrote that filming is going to be “SOOOOO MUUUCCHHH FUUUNNNN!” (direct quote).
Do us proud, Katherine. You’ve got some big glass slippers to fill.
