The ’90s – much like the ’70s – are a recurring trend. Sure, the fashion was a little all over the place (Spice Girls! Pearl Jam!), but it’s a decade we look back on fondly, because, well, it was better than the ’80s.

So, if you’re into the days of baggy jeans, ratty sweaters and ragged, unwashed hair, you might want to get your hands on a piece of that authentic ’90s grunge-era look. And you can, because Kurt Cobain‘s MTV Unplugged mohair cardigan is up for auction, and it’s expected to take in anywhere between $52,424 and $78,636. The current bid is $39,318. [UPDATE: The sweater went for $187,000 ($140,800 USD). That’s right: ONE-HUNDRED-AND-EIGHTY-SEVEN-THOUSAND DOLLARS.]

Julien’s Live describes the cardigan as a “Manhattan brand sweater,” which is a “blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra.” It also highlights the sweater’s missing button, as well as a burn hole near the left pocket. It’s a men’s medium, too, and there is discolouration on both front pockets.

Should you be the winning bid for this cardigan that most certainly did not come from a smoke-free home, you will receive a letter of authenticity. But what to do with it when you get it? Milk it and wear it at every opportunity? Frame it? Vacuum-seal it and put it in a heart-shaped box?

We don’t know, but one thing’s for sure: If you come as you are and wear this sweater, you will likely smell like more than just teen spirit.
