Although Gossip Girl has been gone from our lives for almost three years now, some startling news about the TV drama has just surfaced.

It turns out that The CW originally had a much different idea about who should play the show’s female leads, Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf.

In an interview, CW casting director David Rapaport revealed that in the network’s search to find “the next Mischa Barton and Adam Brody,” Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were NOT the first choices for Serena and Blair. Rumer Willis and Ashley Olsen were!

Yep, that’s right. Rumer as Serena and Ashley as Blair. Can you picture it? Because we totally can’t. Maybe we’re just used to Meester’s Blair, complete with her deliciously frosty quips and sociopath-like method. And Lively’s Serena worked, because you’re not supposed to love her most of the time. In fact, Serena is meant to be irritating. And y’know what? Lively’s weird exhaustion-from-being-too-horny voice really sells irritation after you’ve heard it week after week.

So, yeah, we’re still happy with who the ladies who did get the roles.
