So, there’s this new movie in the works. The drama is based on a 2011 Vanity Fair article detailing an alleged road trip three friends took following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York. Are you with us so far? Ok. Let’s continue. Since air travel was grounded to and from New York around that time, Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando decided to drive from NYC to California. Yes. Those are the three friends. Road trip, everybody!

There are some details in this story we need to be true. Like Michael leading his entourage to a temporary safe haven in New Jersey, and Brando annoying his traveling companions by insisting on stopping at nearly every KFC and Burger King they passed along the highway. (Please be true, please be true.)

Unfortunately it may be work of fiction. A former employee of Jackson told Vanity Fair that “They actually got as far as Ohio — all three of them, in a car they drove themselves,” but an assistant for Taylor denied that she went on the excursion and chose to stay in NYC where she opted to visit Ground Zero and pray instead. Hm.

No one knows whether all or even some of this actually happened but despite the contradictory claims, Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon will film on. And while it sounds completely bananas (in the best way folks, don’t get us wrong here!), casting is all but complete. Brian Cox is slated to play Brando, which makes total sense. As does Stockard Channing, who will take on the role of Taylor. And then, just when you thought the movie’s premise was wacky enough, comes the actor who will play the King of Pop.

Joseph Fiennes!

Yes, that Joseph Fiennes.

No, really. It’s happening.

Do you see it? We suppose there might be a teensy something similar about the two men that stands out. But that can be said about anything if you squint at it long enough. Fiennes is an actor so it’s his job to embody someone else. But Michael Jackson, of all people? It seems like a long shot. We can’t wait to see this.
