You haven’t seen your favorite movies until you’ve seen them on the big screen (sorry, your 64” flatscreen doesn’t count). The trouble is a lot of us haven’t ever had the chance to see them projected in a movie theatre – either because your all-time faves came out before your time, or because you’ve only ever seen them in the comfort of your own home because, well, that’s the only way you could.
Well, Cineplex’s Great Digital Film Festival (GDFF) is coming to the rescue. For six years the one-week festival – which runs from January 30th to February 5th this year – has made it its mission to handpick crowd pleasers, cult films, and more to screen for a measly few bucks ($6.99 per screening, to be precise).
What’s more, they’re showing them in the best possible way: back-to-back. In some cases even back-to-back-to-back-to- well, you get the idea. Who doesn’t love a good movie marathon? It’s the ultimate movie-lover experience. It’s also an ideal thing to do when it’s this cold out. A chance to plunk your rear end into a seat in a heated theatre and let it numb from being perpetually entertained, rather than from -20 C weather? Yes, please.
Naturally, no movie marathon is worth your time if the movies aren’t actually good. But you’d have to be some sort of cinema-hating killjoy to not find something here that you’d want to watch back-to-back. Like big-time superheroes? How about an all-day screening of the entire X-Men franchise? Prefer your comic book (or comic book-like) movies a bit more colorful? Darkman, Dick Tracy, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, The Rocketeer and The Monster Squad are on hand. Enjoy your classic science-fiction? Blade Runner, Alien and Aliens are showing. Or, maybe you just like Quentin Tarantino? Then you can see Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 – the way the director always meant them to be seen.
It all starts this Friday, so be sure to get your tickets ASAP and start movie marathoning.
