While we in North America were all distracted by Cody Simpson's new song, new romance and general existence, it looks like Lindsay Lohan and a contingent of fans in Australia were the ones truly paying attention. So much so that they correctly called him as the celeb behind the robot mask on
The Masked Singer Australia. Wait, what??Hands up if you weren't aware there was an Australian version of
The Masked Singer let alone that there was such a prominent star on it—this is
Ryan Reynolds all over again. Simpson was the last contestant to be unmasked on the season one finale of the show's Aussie iteration, immediately after he was announced as the winner. It's only fitting that the title went to a world-renowned pop star.
Before the big reveal, panelist Lindsay Lohan and fans online speculated that Simpson was the man behind the robot,
especially after last week when he performed a medley of Miley Cyrus songs.
Cody and Miley have been the hottest and heaviest celeb couple as of late and the nod to her music seemed like the ultimate clue. Although Lindsay had a little more to go off of considering Cody dated her sister in the past.That's right—back in May 2018, Simpson dated Lindsay's little sister, Ali Lohan, and Lindsay, never being one to shy away from
an awkward moment, brought it up on the show."Originally, I was thinking a Backstreet Boy and now I'm thinking it's Cody Simpson," she said of the robot character on last week's episode. "It would be a really big throw-off if it was Cody cause he dated my sister for a long time ... I feel like I know you and that's what scares me the most." She added that Ali had furnished Simpson's Venice Beach apartment, but Cody said later that the furniture never arrived—as if the whole situation wasn't awkward enough.It appears it was all in good fun though since Simpson posted a video of himself watching the panelists guess on his Instagram Stories. When Lohan said she felt they had a "weird connection," Cody said, "True, Lindsay, true. She's right."Cody's reveal comes just a few days after releasing his recent
Miley Cyrus-inspired single, "Golden Thing" which he apparently penned in the two weeks since the two started dating. Cyrus and Simpson have been piling on the PDA online and IRL, appearing together all over Los Angeles. The entire season of
The Masked Singer was pre-taped in the summer, leaving Simpson totally free to live it up with his new GF as the episodes aired.Now that we know a celeb as big as Cody Simpson was hidden behind a mask in Australia, we're
