The countdown to Halloween is on and since everyone needs some nice things heading into the last little bit of 2020, the original Hocus Pocus trio has some good news for us. Or at least they do if you’re a fan of the classic, (not too) spooky movie, and have been hoping the Sanderson sisters would recreate some of that OG magic.Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy gave fans a sneak peek at their upcoming October 30 reunion special over the weekend, stirring up cauldrons everywhere. “Your 3 fav witches... are returning for 1 night only,” 74-year-old Midler shared on Instagram along with a photo of everyone in costume from a dress rehearsal. “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters is the best thing to happen to #Halloween since Hocus Pocus + Reeses Pieces.”
Fans will want to break out those Reese Pieces on October 30 at 8 pET sharp, to be exact. Tickets for the virtual event are on sale now and purchasing one will get you much more than access to the three leads in costume. In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover will be hosted by Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, while a slew of famous faces are also stopping by. How famous, you ask? How does a list that includes Meryl Streep, Jennifer Hudson, Glenn Close, Billy Crystal and Martin Short sound? The names don’t end there either. Billy Eichner, Adam Lambert, John Stamos, Samantha Diaz, Todrick Hall, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Alex Moffat, Sarah Silverman, Sophie von Haselberg, Thora Birch, Omri Katz, and Doug Jones are also making guest appearances, and even more surprise personalities are expected to stop by the night-of.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Kid shows off epic Cybertruck Transformer Halloween costume[/video_embed]The best part is that it’s all going toward a good cause. All profits from tickets sold go to the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), a non-profit organization founded by Midler in 1995. The organization’s goal is to ensure that all New Yorkers have beautiful greenspace within walking distance of their homes, adding private resources to the lacking municipal funds. Each year Midler throws a “Hulaween” benefit to raise money for the organization, and this year’s soiree just happens to be all about Hocus Pocus.Hocus Pocus was released in 1993 and even though it wasn’t exactly a box office hit, it has since become a cult classic. If you need further proof, the movie was re-released in theatres earlier this month, and it quickly became the highest-grossing film at the box office, generating an estimated one million dollars in ticket sales over a single weekend.Last year Disney+ even confirmed that a sequel is in development, and the three leads have all expressed interest in reprising their witchy roles. Midler, who typically shares Hocus Pocus throwback photos every October and has even dressed up as Winifred for the holiday in the past, has admitted that the character is one of her all-time favourite roles. That’s definitely saying something considering she’s had quite a few award-nominated gigs over her career. And SJP seems to be on board too. Last year when she posted her own throwback photo to the movie on Halloween, one fan asked for a status on the sequel. “We have all said yes,” she responded. “Now we wait.”Now we wait indeed.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Check out how this Great Dane react to this cat's Halloween costume[/video_embed]
